Plymouth County, Iowa
Lewis and Clark's exploration
following the Missouri River in
1804 opened the way to
settlement in Plymouth County.
Just ten years after Iowa was
admitted to Statehood in 1846,
westward expansion in the
State made it's call on Plymouth
County. The first two
settlements took place at nearly
the same time near Melbourne
on the Floyd River between
present day Hinton and Merrill
and south of Westfield on the
Big Sioux River. Today,
Plymouth County, Iowa is one of
the top food production areas in
America. Dairy, meat, and grain
products form the foundation of
our prosperity and high quality
of life.
